Asked today by a playing partner if it was legal to mark the ball with your shoe as you bend down pick it up clean it and return it. I frankly didn’t know so read 14.1 again and the definition of ball marker and still am not sure. A shoe is not a natural object but neither is it a small object such as a tee or a coin.

We’ve responded a number of times that yes, using your shoe as a ball-marker is acceptable provided the position of the ball is accurately marked while doing so.
