Rule 19. Ball in Motion Deflected or Stopped

19-2 By Player, Partner, Caddie or Equipment

a. Match Play If a player’s ball is accidentally deflected or stopped by himself, his partner or either of their caddies or equipment, he loses the hole.

b. Stroke Play If a competitor’s ball is accidentally deflected or stopped by himself, his partner or either of their caddies or equipment, the competitor incurs a penalty of two strokes. The ball must be played as it lies, except when it comes to rest in or on the competitor’s, his partner’s or either of their caddies’ clothes or equipment, in which case the competitor must through the green or in a hazard drop the ball, or on the putting green place the ball, as near as possible to where the article was when the ball came to rest in or on it.

(Through the Green: ’Through the green’ is the whole area of the course except:
a. The teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played; and
b. All hazards on the course.)

Entäpä jos pelaajan lyömä pallo osuu hänen käyttämänsä mailan varteen, kuten tuttu jannu ’taituroi’ tänään Luukissa? Onko kyseessä kaksoiskosketus vai osuminen pelaajan varusteisiin, joihin Tomppa 5150:n vastaus osittain viittasi?

Hmmm… tästähän voi kehitellä vaikka mitä! Kuten esimerkiksi, missä vaiheessa lyönti päättyy?

Pari tilannetta:
1) Pelaaja lyö palloaan jyrkässä ylärinteessä. Lapa osuu palloon, pallo lentää eteenpäin, mutta kimpoaa rinteestä takaisinpäin osuen pelaajan mailan varteen mailan vielä kulkiessa eteenpäin lyöntisuuntaan.
2) Sama kuin edellä, mutta pallo osuukin rinteessä olevaan kiveen, siitä pelaajan takana olevaan puuhun ja vasta siitä pelaajan mailan varteen. Pallon osuessa mailan varteen maila on liikkumattomana pelaajan selän takana pelaajan ollessa hienosti loppuasennossaan.

Missä vaiheessa lyönti päättyy ja maila muuttuu varusteeksi? Muistettakoon, että kaksoiskosketuksesta tulee yksi rangaistuslyönti, mutta varusteeseen osumisesta kaksi. Kaksoiskosketuksesta sääntö sanoo seuraavaa:

14-4. Striking the Ball More than Once
If a player’s club strikes the ball more than once in the course
of a stroke, the player must count the stroke and add a penalty
stroke, making two strokes in all.

Ja varuste on:

“Equipment’’ is anything used, worn or carried by or for the player except any ball he has played at the hole being played and any small object, such as a coin or a tee, when used to mark the position of a ball or the extent of an area in which a ball is to be dropped. Equipment includes a golf cart, whether or not motorised. If such a cart is shared by two or more players, the cart and everything in it are deemed to be the
equipment of the player whose ball is involved except that, when the cart is being moved by one of the players sharing it, the cart and everything in it are deemed to be that player’s equipment.
Note: A ball played at the hole being played is equipment when it has been lifted and not put back into play.

Q: A player’s ball strikes a pipeline and on the rebound hits the face of his club. Is the player considered to have struck the ball more than once in breach of Rule 14-4?

A: No. The player did not strike the ball more than once. He struck it once and it rebounded and hit the face of his club. Rule 19-2 applies.
