Royal Precision Golf Corporation Closes Its Doors Torrington – A company that makes golf clubs has made its last swing by laying off workers and shutting down. The doors officially closed this afternoon at the Royal Precision Golf Corporation on Migeon Avenue in Torrington. The layoffs started in November and now 150 more workers will be on the unemployment line. Mixed emotion as employees took the walk from building to parking lot one last time. Some of these employees have been working there for the last forty years. But what’s bothered some the most as they were leaving is that the news came this morning. ’This is a slap in the face,’ said Bob Strahan. After 36 years Bob Strahan was due to retire soon and this job was all he had. After decades of making cutting edge golf club parts and known for manufacturing the country’s first steel shaft, Royal Precision is closing its Torrington plant. The last couple of years workers say the company has seen hard times. Three years ago more than 100 workers were laid off and those remaining had a feeling this was coming. Now employees say they’re the ones who’ve been shafted. Next week union members will meet with the company to iron out a severance package. Company officials released a statement saying they were in fact closing but gave no reason.
