Insinööri CC:tä on pitkään harmittanut tämä svingipainon abstrakti luokitus. Esim. 3:n gramman lisäys driverin nuppiin aiheuttaa taatusti suuremman svingipainon muutoksen kuin saman massan lisäys wedgeen. Vihdoinkin surffatessa törmäsin tietoon, joka kertoo svingipainon suoraan momenttina: Swingweight is a measure of the static moment of a golf club about point fourteen (14) inches from the butt end of the grip. Even today the reason for using this as a criterion in the design of a golf club remains a mystery. It has been the accepted practice for forty years, more or less. Technically, the static balance referred to here is the first moment of the total weight of the golf club about a fourteen inch fulcrum. Its value is expressed in inch-ounces. An arbitrary scale was assigned to the values of the moments. A moment of 213.5 inch-ounces is called a D-0 swingweight. Each point on the scale represents a static moment change equal to 1.75 inch-ounces. For example, a golf club that has a D-2 swingweight has a moment equal to 217.0 inch-ounces while for a C-0 golf club, the moment is 196.0 inch-ounces. 0.007061552 on kerroin muutettaessa inch-ounce sivistyneempään muotoon eli Nm:ksi. Toivottavasti tieto ei lisää tuskaa kun rakennellaan mailoja talven pimeinä iltoina…
